Protein Data Bank ID: 2E9V
Protein Name: Serine/Threonine-Protein Kinase Chk1
Organism: Homo sapiens
Title of Drawing: “Figure Skater and her Trainer”

The structure is a serine/threonine-protein kinase/check point kinase (Chk1). Kinases are enzymes which transfers phosphate groups from donor molecules to specific substrates. The substrate of Chk1 is cdc25. When phosphorylated cdc25 cannot remove the phosphate group from another factor MPF thereby preventing the cell from division. Thus, as it can be derived from its name the check point kinase checks the status of the cell and “decides” if a cell division (mitosis) would make sense.

I really like your work. You might want to check out the sculpture work of a friend f mine, Bathsheba Grossman. Her sculpture is based on mathematical and physical principles and uses CAD and part printing.

Bathsheba’s work is really amazing! Thank you for sharing the link!
